A wealth of experience
Andy Buchan has had a life long career in the heating and plumbing industry starting at the age of 16 when he took a plumbing apprenticeship with a small business in Birmingham.
On his arrival in Cirencester, Andy worked as a heating fitter with Toveys for three years. In 1980 he set up his own business installing gas and oil heating systems. The business grew from strength to strength and Andy made the jump to renewables in 2004, having been inspired by a number of courses at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Wales.
He set up Cotswold Efficient Energy Centre, a fully working educational showroom which not only attracted future customers but also visitors from schools, colleges, architects, builders, estate agents and local councils. The centre won 5 National Awards for its environmental work. Andy handed over the business to his eldest son in 2012 to release him to pursue other challenges. For two years, he regularly gave talks to schools and colleges in the area on the merits of sustainable energy.
A well known figure in the renewable energy field, Andy has sat on a sustainable group in the House of Lords, toured with a national magazine educating installers on renewables, regularly presents at Ecobuild, writes editorial columns for three industry magazines and was also awarded the most 'significant contributor to the renewable energy industry' in 2012.
